Because of my parent's examples of living and striving to do what is right, I too have that desire. One of the most important lessons that I've learned from my father is the importance of obedience. No I'm not perfect is this area, but I understand that when we are counseled or asked to do something by a higher authority we just should do it. It's not a matter to debate or question, we just do it. From my mother the most important lesson I've learned is to be nice. She is always quoting the movie Harvey and telling me that "it is important to be smart, but that it's more important to be nice." In high school, before I was introduced to the movie Harvey, I remember the only advice she would say to me as I was running out the door to play with my friends was, "Be nice!" I always thought that to be such funny advice since all my other friends were getting advice like, "Be safe!", "Be smart!", or "Be home by curfew!" But I understand now how important it really is to be nice!! And I can probably say mom that I'm more nice than smart :)
I know how to laugh even when life seems so crazy and hectic thanks to my family! Life is not easy and I don't believe it ever will be. But like Elder Wirthlin said, "Come what may, and love it!" . . . and I do love life! It takes a lot of faith and trust in the Lord to believe sometimes that I can get through hard times, especially with my school work right now, but I know if I'm trying my best and not letting fear creep in, just keeping faith, that the Lord is aware of me and will help me when I ask, according to His will, and how it is best for ME.
I know I'm one of my parents most stubborn children, and sometimes they want to just beat me. . heh heh! and I apologize mom and dad, but then I also know that you still love me and support me in every thing I do. No matter how mad I make you at times, you still are there with your arms open and your love is so strong!
You both are always there cheering me on and telling me I can. Actually saying "I can't" is as if saying a swear word around my mom. She always says. "You can so don't say you can't! As a man thinketh Alli!" I know that if I ever graduate from college it's because of the support and confidence I get from my parents!
Mom and Dad, You have created a strong family full of love for one another! And like grandpa Cope always bragged about, you too can brag that every child who's married has had a temple marriage.
That is such a blessing and I may not be married in the temple, but I soon will get the opportunity to go through the temple and I can say I am worthy to go through. I am so grateful to be an eternal family and look forward to spending eternity with each of you! I also am looking forward to having the opportunity to go through the house of our Lord.
Whether big or small I pray we can always be there for each other to cheer each other on and help each other accomplish our dreams and goals! I look up to all of my brothers and sisters and the accomplishments and steps you have already made in your lives. It gives me the hope and strength I need to keep going and trying!
I'm so grateful for this gospel! I know it is true!! I know that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon and restored the true gospel of Jesus Christ on this earth for us today. I am so grateful to him and all he went through and suffered to keep the truth here and going. I pray I can be as faithful to the Lord and serve him everyday standing as a witness at all times, in all things, and in all places. I am excited to serve a mission and just hope I can become and be the missionary that my Savior wants me to be! Thank you family for the great supporters and examples you are to me! Once again I say, and this will never become cliche, I LOVE YOU!
